One of my favourite announcements on TV is when the guy on X-Factor says ‘It’s Time To Face The Music’. And that’s exactly what I am going to do. As previously announced 2017 is going to be the proper revival of ehCharts!
And yes to start from scratch again is going to look a bit dull in the first week, though I’m afraid I do have to start somewhere like I did with this first time around an incredible 16(!) years ago.
I can still remember my first ever number 1 back in 2001. It sometimes feels like it was just yesterday, when the 2000 Sydney Olympics finished and Vanessa Amorosi’s ‘Absolutely Everybody’ went to the top and became one of the best songs of 2001.
But that was 2001 – time to fast forward to now, 2017 and my first number one was actually featured in the opening sequence of a movie I recently watched. ‘Angel Of The Morning’ by Juice Newton might have been already around in 2006 though this was the first time round I heard this song. It instantly stuck in my head and fought off the competition with ease. So thank you ‘Deadpool’ (that’s the name of the film) for introducing me to this one!
My recent visit to Germany over Christmas has also given me the chance to buy a DVD set of my favourite Anime series called ‘Mila Superstar’ which I have been binge watching over the past two weeks. It is not really known in the English world (unless you are a hardcore Anime/Manga fan) but I kind of grew up with this show and it brought back brilliant memories of my childhood. It also is still surprisingly motivating and has already helped me through some tough swim/gym sessions this week! Anyway it is therefore no surprise that the main song ‘Atakku No. 1’ performed by Kurumi Kobato sneaks in at No. 3!
This week did not just see Sweden’s Saraha occupying a Top 10 position with the Eurovision pre-entry song ‘Kizunguzungu’ (on 2). It also has Bardo who represented the United Kingdom in 1982 with their entry called ‘One Step Further’, a song I just recently started listening too and is actually quite catchy!
And even I sometimes can’t escape the current trends in the music industry as Entry Number 19 is clear evidence for this. ‘Sexual’ by Neiked & Dyo is a prime example of a potentially bad tune though you’re getting used to it as it is played over and over again on the radio. But I’ll let you be the judge of that and leave you on that note until next week.
