Reset

I have made a decision after the past few weeks me thinking about ehCharts (and not posting again!) and decided -> drumroll please

The main reason for this step is that I have been lacking so much with continuity this year and it has gone so far that by now it doesn’t make sense to just start at the end of October again, since this year chart wise will be a write off year!

This means over the next couple of weeks/months I still be showing you regular updates of Enrico’s Hitlist, but it will not account for much in terms of figures for future statistics as it will not have an impact whatsoever and if it does it will be very minimal.

Thanks to X-Factor ehCharts has a new number one (though no one really knows besides myself who has been occupying the top spot over recent weeks) in form of Little Mix’ latest single ‘Shout Out To My Ex’. It was performed on last weeks live result show and has not just climbed to the top in my charts! It has also gained the top spot in the UK Top 40, which is just more evidence that sometimes (!) I’m up to current trends contrary to popular belief.

Another song I want to highlight is currently ranked on eight position but has been a big Top 3 hit over the summer months, especially since June when I discovered this song on my travel around the world. Produce 101’s smash hit single ‘Pick Me’ is a perfect example of K-Pop which has now infiltrated ehCharts!

‘Love On Me’ by Gallants & Hook N Sling is a very new entry and by the looks of it the fourth place will not be the end for this uplifting dance song which will probably help me with my gym work outs over the weeks to come! And with this uplifting note I shall say good night until next time! Thanks for ‘tuning’ in! Continue reading “Reset”

Can’t Stop

I kind of have to start this weeks article with yet another apology, because it has been such a long time since my last post (again I know!)

BUT a lot has happened since last year to say the least. I won’t bore you with those details today, because a) I need to keep some stories for the future to come and b) it is already pretty late and I do need my ‘beauty’ sleep #joking!

A few things though! This week marks another new beginning of ehCharts – 3rd time lucky  I hope, as I haven’t been consistent enough over the past few months to keep it up I spontaneously decided to re-start again, as much as it hurts!

This weeks headline also coincidently refers to the ‘first’ Number 1 ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ by Justin Timberlake who performed this fine tune at the Eurovision Song Contest final this year in Sweden’s capital Stockholm. Even though I only kept my top 20 sporadically over the past couple of months this song would have been number one quite a few times so it definitely deserves the top position this week. However Shakira’s ‘Try Everything’ from Zootopia is closely followed especially after having discovered an amazing remix to this song. And I actually think this is a close candidate for number one next week, but who knows! We all know anything is possible these days, especially when its comes to my music taste so stay tuned for more to come, because I am definitely back for good!!!

Including

Of course I need to open this week with the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) including Australia into this years Eurovision Song Contest! A very big move which I thought would stir up a bit more uproar however even the news channels of the world have been playing it down slightly. Nonetheless I am excited about it and hope SBS will select a great entry! If it would have been in 2007 I am sure they would have won with ‘Lights Surrounding You’ by Evermore (You can find this amazing pop ballad further down and do enjoy!).

You will see, that this week has seen quite an ‘international’ development in the Top 20! Foremost a new number one, coming fresh from Italy (and no it is not their entry for Vienna!). Giusy Ferreri’s ‘Ma Il Cielo è Sempre Più Blu’ has literally stormed to Number 1 and easily made Olly Murs & Demi Levatos success from last week with ‘Up’ very short lived indeed as they have to be satisfied with the second place. I might be crazy but I do think Giusy’s song does have a few similarities with Kate Nash’s ‘Do-Wah-Doo’!

I also would like to point to some new discoveries coming from Denmark in form of Cisilia’s ‘Vi To Datid Nu’ and ‘Às Vezes’ by D.A.M.A from Portugal debuting at number 4 and 5 respectively. Other than that it is quite interesting to see Helene Fischer still climbing and actually reaching the Top 10 again! And last but not least Glee is on a cover mission again and ‘All About That Bass’ – a massive hit by Meghan Trainor – sneaks in at Number 19. Now I wonder what next week has to offer!

Before I forget, I would like to thank the new viewers from Yemen, Peru, Croatia, Thailand and India for visiting!

Progress

Welcome back and can you believe, that the first month of 2015 has already passed?! I actually can, looking at the progress I have made so far this year and especially looking at ehCharts being now in it’s fifth week!

Quite a few changes (yet again) especially with the new Number 1 by country newcomer Sam Hunt and his amazing ‘House Party’ song! I do hope he will release a few more songs soon matching the catchy style of this tune.

People who know me personally, and people who have been following ehCharts – to whom I am very grateful to – know that I always had a passion for the Glee Cast and the way they covered certain songs. It is therefore no surprise (to me at least) that ‘Hand In My Pocket / I Feel The Earth Move’ has made an overwhelming debut at Number 3 just behind last weeks number one ‘Feelin’ It’ by another country newcomer Scotty McCreery.

This is closely followed by ‘What Are You Waiting For’,  a summer pop anthem in fourth position by the infamous UK girl group The Saturdays who have first emerged onto the scene a couple of years ago with their cover version of ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’.

One more song I would like to introduce this week (scroll down for the video) is the one which is going to represent France at this years Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Austria’s capital Vienna. Not only has Lisa Angell managed to sneak in at a respectable 6th position, she also has kicked her competition from the Netherlands Trijntje Oosterhuis down to the minor ranks. ‘N’Oubliez Pas’ will do well I think!

I wish one of these songs would feature at tonights SuperBowl which is happening in Phoenix/Arizona right now! Maybe one day! Go SeaHawks (yes I am supporting Seattle)!!!

ehCharts is back

I am sure – well I hope – that you have all been waiting for the first official top 20 of ehCharts.com!

Your patience over the last few months will definitely be rewarded, though I must warn, that today’s list might look a bit boring, as every song is listed as new! This obviously will change over time, but since this is a brand new start I (and you!) do have to take it from here onwards.

It is still a shame that I had to say goodbye to Enrico’s Hitlist which had its presence over the past 14 years (!) but I will continue with some flashbacks, as my goal of posting every day over the past two weeks miserably failed due to (again) some unforeseen personal circumstances. C’est La Vie!

So here is to a better, brighter future with music which hopefully you enjoy as much as I do!

Welcome to ehCharts!

And the first official Number 1 goes to American newcomer group G.R.L. with an upbeat song called ‘Ugly Heart’. This tune has been a favourite of mine over the past few weeks and I am still amazed it plays so well. I would like to mention though that one of the singers sadly passed away this week.

This first week is also a demonstration for my international taste for music, and Slovenia predominantly strikes this week with four entries! A top 3 spot was earned with ‘Viski’ by Lidija Bačić. It kind of just shows as well the music theme of the year, which is still country-pop, albeit be this time from the Balkan and not America for once.

On Number 4 is a song splitting peoples opinion (well, according to my facebook). Meghan Trainor with ‘All About The Bass’ literally has 50% Likers and 50% Haters. I obviously count for the Likers as the high debut position for this young American song-writer, musician shows! International chart positions do back me up on this occasion as well!

I would almost say another Slovenian Pop ‘institution’ is Rebeka Dremelj who I well remember from Enrico’s Hitlist with her fabulous songs such as ‘Vrag Naj Vzame’, ‘Petek’ and Brez Sramu! However this time she scores a ‘new’ (y’all know how I am sometimes behind with music) hit called ‘Pod Mojo Kožo’ which sneaks in at a respectable Number 5. Very much easy pop/rock. The stuff we all like!

Oh and here is a song from the past, which reached the Number 1 spot in Enrico’s Hitlist back in 2002. Sophie Ellis-Bextor stormed to Number 1 with ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’, which eventually became the most played song that year in Europe, according to Wikipedia

2014 – The 10th

What a lovely end to the week we had over here in the UK! It is therefore with no surprise that Natalija Verboten holds onto the top spot for another week with her summer ish song ‘Ma Kje Si Ti’. There were also a few Eurovision shuffles this week with Romania being the strongest contestant by pushing last weeks biggest gainer Ruth Lorenzo from Spain down one rank into third place.

We also have three new entries, which two of them I’d like to share with you! However due to the potential spoiler alert I will not show the Glee versions as it wouldn’t be fair. Nevertheless, the Glee Cast did produce a very good cover version of Wilson Phillips ‘Hold On’ and deserve to be this weeks highest entry on number four. The original -which gained popularity again after it was featured in the smash hit movie Bridesmaids – entered ehcharts in November 2011 where it stormed to number one! During its 16 weeks chart appearance so far it has scored 356 points which makes it the 85th most successful song in Enrico’s Hitlist as of today! Simply enjoy.

Well, change of plans! Sadly I did not find a good enough version of ‘Gloria’. I’m saying that, because so far Australian pop group The Young Divas achieved the biggest success in my charts with their cover version of this Italian hit originally sung by Umberto Tozzi and then famously commercialised by Laura Branigan! Regardless, I’ve decided to do one of my flashbacks and the Saturdays appeared today five years ago for the very first time with their Comic Relief song ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’, which funnily enough fits into this weeks new entries theme => cover songs, don’t you think? Despite being more successful than the original tune done by Depeche Mode – this version never made it to the top spot! Are you surprised as much as I am?!

If it wouldn’t have been for the new entries from Jessie J, Savage Garden, The Saturdays and Rascal Flatts, this week would have had almost 20 non-movers which has been very rare in Enrico’s Hitlist over the past 13 years! Nonetheless 2013 has its 14th Number 1.

And Jessie J has done it again. ‘It’s My Party’ is her second top spot after her big success with ‘Domino’ last year which became the fifth most successful song of 2012! Well done Jessie J! And oh my god, what a party tune this one is!

The second highest ‘new’ entry of the week goes to Savage Garden. It is yet another example for one of Enrico’s surprise discoveries. I’ve probably heard this one back in 2000 when it was originally released, but for some reason it only got stuck in my head (well ears!) this week! Nevertheless enjoy this soothing song on this beautiful Sunday evening. And since it is a bank holiday weekend over here – there shall be a special update tomorrow evening!! Until then, have fun with this week’s Enrico’s Top 20! Not sure if you’ve noticed but this is the first week in a long time this year without any Eurovision or Glee entries!
