Hawaii

Good evening or ‘Aloha’ as they say in Hawaii. I do realise that my last chart update has been about 4 weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t happen! Therefore today you’ll get a full all in one overview.

You will notice that on the top position nothing has changed and Sweden’s Wiktoria remains unbeatable for a fifth consecutive week! Quite a stunning feat I might add, which also adds to Sweden’s success in Enrico’s Hitlist so far (more about this in a future post). Unfortunately this young talented lady has not progressed to the Eurovision Song Contest this year, despite being enormously popular with the public! The ‘professional’ jury must have been deaf and blind not to give her higher ratings which ultimately cost her to lose out on Robin Bengtsson’s ‘I Can’t Go On’. Funny enough the Swedish charts seem to reflect my taste on this occasion as Wiktoria is still ranked higher than Robin!

Having re-watched the Swedish selection process called Melodifestivalen again, has also given Ace Wilder’s ‘Wild Child’ a boost as she climbed up to the third position and remains there as solid as a rock only to be beaten by a group which was in my charts about two years ago called Te Vaka. Their upbeat song ‘Logo Te Pate’ debuted two weeks ago thanks to Disney’s magnificent animated movie ‘Moana’. Having watched that movie and also being on a little vacation to America’s paradise has also pushed a few other Hawaiian inspired songs into the Top 20 such as ‘Pakalolo’!

As previously predicted you also notice a german speaking song called ‘Guten Morgen Sonnenschein’ a very upbeat version of Nana Mouskouris’ original which remains in the Top 5 for a 4th week running and by the looks of it it’s going to be in the charts for a while!

Admit

As predicted a week ago, this week sees Melodifestivalens participant Wiktoria storm to the top spot with her cheerful tune called ‘As I Lay Me Down’. She actually progressed to the Final round in Sweden which will take place on the 11th of March in Stockholm to chose their representative for this years Eurovision Song Contest. And not only I like it, Sweden does to, as Wiktoria entered the Swedish Top 20 this week as well! I must admit it has been a while since ESC songs were so predominant in the Top 20.

Not only did Wiktoria climbed to victory this week, but you can also see Italy’s Francesco Gabbani gain an astonishing 15 places to an impressive 3rd position with ‘Occidentalis Karma’ currently a big front runner to do well in Kiev!

We also have Norway’s country/folk group Rune Rudberg Band entering at a respectable 7th position with ‘Run Run Away’ being another potential candidate to represent their country in the Ukraine!

Next weeks chart update will be actually coming from Hawaii, as I embark on a little vacation to Oahu. Perhaps there will be some Polynesian inspired tunes? Who knows!

This song has big potential to enter next weeks charts, and brings me back to 2001 when a well known Nana Mouskouri stormed to success with the original ‘Guten Morgen Sonnenschein’! What a great remix though!

Resurgence

The past week has somehow seen and what I would like to describe as somewhat of a resurgence of a few tunes I thought were on their way down and out of the charts.

Most notably is Saraha’s ‘Kizunguzungu’ which already has been on Top this years. If it continues to be successful like it has been the past 8 weeks then it looks like it is going to be a runaway win for the year end top spot! But more often than not things have changed around last minute so the race is far from over!

Talking about racing: after a bad knee injury and a big cold earlier this year I finally managed to be back in the pool & gym for two weeks now and to also compete again for the first time in a long time. Of course I was pretty nervous about it, but what helped me calm down my nerves was my music and this is the reason why some songs made big gains such as the BBC News Countdown, to me still one of the best ever news singles made!

Last but not least I did start to like Italy’s Eurovision entry for this year performed by Francesco Gabbana who won the San Remo Music Festival and debuts in Enrico’s Hitlist at 18th position. I’m actually shocked the YouTube video already has over 34 million views, which is immense compared to France’s ‘Requiem’ by Alma which fares much better in my charts. Funny how taste differs isn’t it?!

This song was discovered by myself too late for the current week’s Top 20, but by the looks of it Sweden is going to keep their streak of Number 1 hits thus far as ‘I Lay Me Down’ sung by Wiktoria @ Melodifestivalen is on fire! Such a catchy happy pop song you just can’t stop listening to!

Can

Sometimes ‘Spring’ clean outs can be very beneficial and in this case almost be a bit of a miracle! I came across two old laptops of mine, which I totally had forgotten about and believe it or not they do contain some old chart stuff! They contain stats and lists I thought I had lost forever! Okay it is not the entire list from 2001-2014 but a good 8.5 years worth of music memories!!!

This means I will be able to do a bit of a ‘flashback’ today to what was Number 1 Ten(!) years ago! And in a surprise look back it was ‘Same Jeans’ by The View which actually dethroned the almighty Dolly Parton and her smash hit ‘Baby I’m Burning’ that week.

Fast Forward to 2017 and you’ll also find last week’s Number One dethroned. Spain’s Mirela keeps it with the Eurovision family though and I still think ‘Contigo’ should be going to Kiev instead of Manuel Navarro’s ‘Do It For Your Lover’.

This week also see’s the return of Little Mix being the highest entry with ‘Your Love’ since their very successful pop songs ‘Black Magic’ & ‘Shout Out To My Ex’.

It is also interesting to see that only 5 ‘original’ songs from the first week remain in the Top 20! What a week this has been! So happy!

No. 1 Ten Years Ago!

Icing

Eurovision is ‘fast’ approaching, which is clearly reflected in this weeks top 20, including a new number 1. So far I would say brace yourself for France, because the song selected is just brilliant. ‘Requiem’ sung by Alma is a very fresh new style and something somehow completely different to other entries I’ve heard and well the french language is the icing on the cake!

This weeks second highest entry belongs to a song which sadly wasn’t selected to represent Spain in Kiev for some unknown reason! Apparently there has been some scandal surrounding this which I need to investigate further, but Mirela’s ‘Contigo’ fell short to be put through! However, to me it has great potential to become a great summer song for 2017, as it instantly makes me feel I am on a beach in Barcelona having fun! Very catchy indeed!

Honestly, the first time I saw the title for a potential Estonian entry I kind of thought ‘Oh of course someone would make a reference to BREXIT’ and ‘In Or Out’ did sound a bit suspicious, wouldn’t you agree?! Though it is another catchy song and another one with a bit of a different approach towards the biggest music show on the planet. And according to some online poll it has a good chance to become indeed Estonia’s choice. Soon we’ll know for sure.

Fun fact about this latest Top 20 is that despite 4 new entries we only see one gainer (can you spot it?) and the rest all lost ground compared to their placing last week!

Strong

Dolly Style still looking strong with ‘Hello Hi’ clinging onto the top spot for the third consecutive week, fighting off a strong ‘Really Don’t Care’ by Demi Lovato & Cher Lloyd, having to settle for silver.

This all happened in a week which saw One Direction losing one of its members, an awful plane crash in the French Alps and me doing 9 workouts in a week, which I call an achievement, as I haven’t worked out this hard since 2012!!

I also feel a bit proud having correctly predicted that ‘Hold My Hand’ by Jess Glynne would be a future hit, as it debuted at Number 1 in the UK charts, though it only is good enough for the 4th place in my charts this week. Sorry Jess! Glee does demonstrate its strengths having two songs in the Top 5, with ‘I Lived’ & ‘Popular’ being ranked 3 and 5 respectively.

World known Country star Garth Brooks is the only new entrant this week with ‘The River’ sneaking in at number 6, which compared to most of the songs at the moment is a rather quiet but yet beautiful composed country-pop ballad.

This will highly likely be featured in next weeks charts, so stay tuned !

Including

Of course I need to open this week with the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) including Australia into this years Eurovision Song Contest! A very big move which I thought would stir up a bit more uproar however even the news channels of the world have been playing it down slightly. Nonetheless I am excited about it and hope SBS will select a great entry! If it would have been in 2007 I am sure they would have won with ‘Lights Surrounding You’ by Evermore (You can find this amazing pop ballad further down and do enjoy!).

You will see, that this week has seen quite an ‘international’ development in the Top 20! Foremost a new number one, coming fresh from Italy (and no it is not their entry for Vienna!). Giusy Ferreri’s ‘Ma Il Cielo è Sempre Più Blu’ has literally stormed to Number 1 and easily made Olly Murs & Demi Levatos success from last week with ‘Up’ very short lived indeed as they have to be satisfied with the second place. I might be crazy but I do think Giusy’s song does have a few similarities with Kate Nash’s ‘Do-Wah-Doo’!

I also would like to point to some new discoveries coming from Denmark in form of Cisilia’s ‘Vi To Datid Nu’ and ‘Às Vezes’ by D.A.M.A from Portugal debuting at number 4 and 5 respectively. Other than that it is quite interesting to see Helene Fischer still climbing and actually reaching the Top 10 again! And last but not least Glee is on a cover mission again and ‘All About That Bass’ – a massive hit by Meghan Trainor – sneaks in at Number 19. Now I wonder what next week has to offer!

Before I forget, I would like to thank the new viewers from Yemen, Peru, Croatia, Thailand and India for visiting!
