Difficult

I think it is always easy to start something new but then it becomes increasingly difficult to actually continue with what you have set out for yourself and follow it through! Not to go into too much detail, but over a month ago I had the worst hangover and decided to re-fresh and re-set myself to go back to where I left things off. In that sense it wasn’t that much of a fresh start but you get the idea. I wanted to do a month without alcohol and given Christmas and New Year was just around the corner people were looking at me like I was a crazy person! Long story short a month and a bit later I still haven’t touched alcohol which is proof to myself that I am finally on the right path to something great, whatever that may be!

Difficult is also to maintain the Number 1 position in ehCharts – without a doubt one of the most heavily contested charts in the world. Miley Cyrus with ‘The Bitch Is Back’ managed to do that in her second week running and left Cam’s ‘Diane’ and Noemies ‘Ma Petite Familie’ trailing behind on rank 2 and 3 respectively.

The charts have not been influenced by Ru Paul’s Drag Race Allstars so much like last week, but a show reflecting on the year 1994 (can you believe that is 25 years ago?!) left me with a new entry just sneaking in at number 20 in the form of The Grid and the UK top 3 hit called ‘The Swing’. Catchy so don’t judge and enjoy this weeks Top 20!

The Bitch Is Back

In a dramatic turn of events (that itself sounds quite dramatic!) I can reveal, that the first Number 1 of ehCharts reset is going to a song which is self explanatory about my mood! Not only am I back in full swing (life choices related) but the song also describes my motivation to do my charts right again!!

I have to admit, that for a long time this week French Eurovision hopeful Noemie with ‘Ma Petite Familie’ looked like a runaway winner to grab the first top spot, but then came Ru Paul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 4 along with a lip sync between Manila Luzon & Monique Heart. For a while Tina Turner with ‘The Bitch Is Back’ gained a lot of momentum only to be overthrown in the last minute buy a better sounding country pop version by Miley Cirus! The question already in the room is if she is able to hold this position for a second week in a row! Come back to find out.

Also continuing with the typical Eurovision theme (already I know) to this years contest which is taking place in Israel you may notice a few entries such as Victor Crone’s ‘Storm’ (potential for Estonia) or Australia’s Sheppard (not with ‘Coming Home’, but nonetheless a Top 3 HIT in my charts this week).

Before I leave you to let it soak in this weeks charts I want to point out that I love to always listen to all time classics which my charts just prove in the form of ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ or Dusty Springfield’s ‘Son Of A Preacher Man’.

2019

I know it has been a long time since my last post! Almost a year in fact which is a bit embarrassing to admit. And like most of the people (I am no exception) starting the new year, there are some new year resolutions attached to mine as well. One of those is obviously getting back into the swing of things with my EHCHARTS and keeping the world of music interesting with own judgemental taste buds!

However as the first week of 2019 has just begun I am unable yet to provide you with the first Top 20 of the year (you have to be patient a few more days I’m afraid). Until then I thought you might be interested to see what songs have had an impact in the turbulent year just gone. I am sure some of those songs will probably re-appear in 2019 but who knows, because like with everything these days -> ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!! Stay Tuned and a Happy New Year to everyone watching this site! One note – these songs are not listed in oder of ranking and are just a random selection!

Sorry for being a day later than usual, but I literally just got back from my first trip abroad of 2017! I had good intentions yesterday when I was preparing to post ‘live’ from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, but I decided not to in the end (maybe I had too much wine!).

Anyway week Number 3 has passed and so has another week of Enrico’s Hitlist or better now known as ehcharts and we have a new number one! Saraha from Sweden who was denied to represent the country at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest pushed her way to the top spot with ‘Kizunguzungu’ leaving the highest new entry ‘Said No One Ever’ by Jana Kramer in her wake. Not sure how many of you remember my pre-robbery time but Saraha’s song does remind me a tiny bit of Norway’s entry from 2011 called ‘Haba Haba’.

Thanks to my recent long-haul flights to the US I was able to pick up a few new songs who featured in movies I was able to watch, such as ‘The Secret Life Of Pets’! Although I wasn’t travelling to New York (I went to St Louis/Missouri) the song somehow stuck with me mainly because of its catchiness.

Olympic Games / Eurovision Feel – 2014 – The 6th

This week has been influenced by the 22nd Olympic Winter Games currently taking place in the russian city of Sochi. I am saying that, because after an incredible abstinence of thirteen years, Peter Tchaikowsky manages to re-enter The Top 20 with his ‘Russian Dance’ famously known through the Nutcracker Suite. It is a fabulous piece of music and it was wonderfully used during the Opening Ceremony when an amazing display of fireworks took place after the flame was lid by Russian legends Irina Rodnina and Vladislav Tretiak. This just shows you how diverse Enrico’s Hitlist can be. Regardless of the ‘shortage’ of this song it most certainly deserves a place in this weeks charts.

Back to the 21st century and a more current track, despite the great usage of violin melodies which kind of gives it a classical touch at the very beginning! Having spent another week on top of the UK charts I only got hold of it this week and it has been growing on me, hence why the highest debut this week to Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne with ‘Rather Be’!

Biggest move this week goes to a Netflix related song called ‘Stars’ by Youngblood Hawke, which gained a massive ten places and moves up into the Top 10. A very laid back song which just brings you down to earth somehow if you just close your eyes and listen to it!

For once I have been right with a song choice for Eurovision! Not sure if you remember, but a few weeks ago I already had Firelight with ‘Coming Home’ in my charts. Not only did the group re-enter the charts again this week, they were also chosen to represent Malta in Copenhagen later on this year! Not to brag, but I do feel very happy about this little prediction and me being kind of a trend setter!!! I like that it has this country feel to it!

Looking back in in time Enrico’s Hitlist I would like to mention ‘Human’ by the Killers which has been in the Top 20 fifteen weeks in total since it’s first appearance on the 9th of February 2009. It has scored 144 points so far which places them on the all time rank 349, which – out of 2061 songs to date – is a pretty good achievement.

2014 – The 5th

I can’t believe it’s already February! Time sure flies and it is another week in Enrico’s Hitlist with a lot of newcomers – well newcomers to me at least I should say. However it is another successful week for This Silent War with their calm and soothing song ‘We Are Broken’.

The Telephone Answering Machine Song or better known as ‘Hello, This Is Joanie’ has to give away another position and has moved into 3rd place this week to make room for the highest debut. ‘Eftir Eitt Lag’ by Greta Mjöll Samúelsdóttir is a potential entry for Iceland at this years Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. If this get’s through the 12 points from the host nation Denmark are almost certain! I think it’s a very clever arrangement. Let me know your thoughts on this one.

Seems like Eurovision Fever has hit again early this year. Scandinavian nation Finland has chosen their song and ‘Something Better’ by Softengine has at least a good chance to make it to the Final! Albeit being a good song, it didn’t have the effect ‘Marry Me’ had last year when it became Finland’s first song to reach the Number One spot in Enrico’s Hitlist. Well you never know though!

I feel I never give enough credit to the bottom of the charts so I’ve decided to feature the 20th position – also a new entry – in this weeks video presentation! Looks like a lot of groups & artists becoming very creative with their names. Imagine Dragons doesn’t sound very inviting, unlike their song ‘On Top Of The World’ which finally managed to scrape into Enrico’s Hitlist!

Scottish born Emeli Sande had a pretty successful year in 2013 with her hits ‘Next To Me’ and ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’. 2014 goes off with a cracking start and a cover of the legendary song ‘Imagine’ which was used in a BBC documentary about the 2012 London Olympic Games. Rank seven for this beautiful tune which had previously success in Enrico’s Hitlist being covered by the Glee Cast! Simply enjoy

Although Hayden Panettiere hasn’t managed to grab the Number 1 position this week with her new song, she will go down in  History when it comes to Enrico’s Hitlist! ‘Trouble Is’ has entered the charts as the 2000th single since the 1st of January 2001! What an achievement! It also proves that the US TV Hit ‘Nashville’ is certainly going to end 2013 as the show which scored the most Number 1 hits this year, unless Glee can produce something magical within the last remaining weeks. Aubrey Peeples is definitely the tune to listen to at this point since she’s holding on to the top spot for a third week in a row!! Impressive stuff. However I shall present you Hayden’s fabulous new single!

By just looking at the next new entry on number 3 surely most of you will think what the hell is that all about, but as previously mentioned Enrico’s Hitlist can be very unpredictable and it sure has always a surprise looming around the corner! This weeks surprise entry goes to a song from the 1959 Disney animated movie Sleeping Beauty! For some odd reason I got drawn into it this past week and I forgot about the whole cleaning scene! It is so funny and the music is just very fitting. A clever classical theme which deserves an entry in Enrico’s Hitlist! What colour would you go for?!

The theme song to the Bubblegum Crisis Anime caught my ear again this week, despite being it over six minutes long! There is just something about the Japanese Anime’s and their catchy pop songs. Mind you, this one is definitely more on the rock than the pop side. But listen to it and judge for yourself. Maybe you like it as much as I do! On a last note for this week’s charts you might have noticed that One Republic’s ‘Feel Again’ sadly left the Top 20 after 22 weeks in the charts with 9 of them being ranked at the top!
