Hawaii

Good evening or ‘Aloha’ as they say in Hawaii. I do realise that my last chart update has been about 4 weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t happen! Therefore today you’ll get a full all in one overview.

You will notice that on the top position nothing has changed and Sweden’s Wiktoria remains unbeatable for a fifth consecutive week! Quite a stunning feat I might add, which also adds to Sweden’s success in Enrico’s Hitlist so far (more about this in a future post). Unfortunately this young talented lady has not progressed to the Eurovision Song Contest this year, despite being enormously popular with the public! The ‘professional’ jury must have been deaf and blind not to give her higher ratings which ultimately cost her to lose out on Robin Bengtsson’s ‘I Can’t Go On’. Funny enough the Swedish charts seem to reflect my taste on this occasion as Wiktoria is still ranked higher than Robin!

Having re-watched the Swedish selection process called Melodifestivalen again, has also given Ace Wilder’s ‘Wild Child’ a boost as she climbed up to the third position and remains there as solid as a rock only to be beaten by a group which was in my charts about two years ago called Te Vaka. Their upbeat song ‘Logo Te Pate’ debuted two weeks ago thanks to Disney’s magnificent animated movie ‘Moana’. Having watched that movie and also being on a little vacation to America’s paradise has also pushed a few other Hawaiian inspired songs into the Top 20 such as ‘Pakalolo’!

As previously predicted you also notice a german speaking song called ‘Guten Morgen Sonnenschein’ a very upbeat version of Nana Mouskouris’ original which remains in the Top 5 for a 4th week running and by the looks of it it’s going to be in the charts for a while!

First

Sorry for being a day later than usual, but I literally just got back from my first trip abroad of 2017! I had good intentions yesterday when I was preparing to post ‘live’ from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, but I decided not to in the end (maybe I had too much wine!).

Anyway week Number 3 has passed and so has another week of Enrico’s Hitlist or better now known as ehcharts and we have a new number one! Saraha from Sweden who was denied to represent the country at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest pushed her way to the top spot with ‘Kizunguzungu’ leaving the highest new entry ‘Said No One Ever’ by Jana Kramer in her wake. Not sure how many of you remember my pre-robbery time but Saraha’s song does remind me a tiny bit of Norway’s entry from 2011 called ‘Haba Haba’.

Thanks to my recent long-haul flights to the US I was able to pick up a few new songs who featured in movies I was able to watch, such as ‘The Secret Life Of Pets’! Although I wasn’t travelling to New York (I went to St Louis/Missouri) the song somehow stuck with me mainly because of its catchiness.

Laziness

A lot has happened since my last entry 132 days ago. Yes my dear readers from all over the world it is that long ago!

To be honest I am not even sure why I haven’t posted my weekly top 20. I guess I could blame my own pure laziness which over the past couple of months has overtaken my life in all sorts of aspects such as swim training, consumption of alcohol, gym and obviously not in a good way.

The only part where I haven’t been lazy is actually work which finally got rewarded 1.5 weeks ago with me being recognised within the firm with an award for outstanding customer service! Oh and I have travelled a bit as well and explored new destinations such as Miami, Las Vegas, Philadelphia the states of Tennessee and Kentucky. There will be more inside info to come over the next couple of weeks, with special mention of Dollywood (another childhood dream come true) of course!

But a key event happened two weeks ago which kind of opened my eyes and has changed my perception/view on certain things in life! So I do think I’m back on track and getting back to my old self which FINALLY has resulted in getting my lazy ass in front of the computer and show you the latest chart movements and from now on hopefully with some continuity again!

Before I give you the run down of the latest Top 20 I shall reveal the current standing after 34 weeks so far in 2014.

No. 5

Little Mix has entered ehCharts on the 15th of June and ‘Black Magic’ went straight to the top spot where it remained for 5 consecutive weeks. It was one of those Sunday’s were the song was played on TV and it just got stuck in my mind. A catchy perfect pop song which should have been released earlier to be even more successful than it has been.

No. 4

Do you remember a couple of months ago when I thought that ‘House Party’ by Sam Hunt could potentially become song of the year? Well things change fast in the world of music and even on ehCharts.com as the current 4th position just shows. Let’s see if in the remainder of the year the country newcomer can change this somehow!

No. 3

Lithuania’s Eurovision Entry suddenly developed to one of the biggest surprise hits of the year! Not only is has it stayed 3 weeks at Number one, but it also has stayed in the Top 20 since the Grand Final back in May and is a hot contender for the song of 2015, because the top 3 currently are very close together point wise and Monika + Vaidas certainly know how to entertain. A shame they didn’t get more recognition on the actual final in Vienna!

No. 2

A group name with Dolly in it is kind of automatically bound for success! 7 Weeks Number 1 (the longest so far) which would have also been a great Eurovision Entry for Sweden this year (but failed narrowly by literally a couple of votes in their pre-selection to advance further) is granted to ‘Hello Hi’ by Dolly Style. It is fighting for the overall top spot which is still up for grabs and by the looks of it ‘cheesy’ pop music is currently on the rise again. Nonetheless a great catchy pop song!

No. 1

A song first ‘discovered’ by me way before it became popular in Europe is currently leading ehCharts 2015. It recently has dropped out of the Top 20 but it’s 31 weeks in the charts and two of them being number 1 is giving OMI and ‘Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix) a well deserved lead and as the current Top 20 proves RE-ENTRIES are possible at anytime for any song and artist!

Pitch Perfect 2 has definitely had a big impact over the past two weeks culminating by climbing to this weeks Number 1 position with the incredible good feel song ‘Crazy Youngsters’ fighting off the Troublemakers (also featured in Pitch Perfect 2) with Lollipop which – a couple of years back – had been a huge success for pop sensation Mika.

Sweden is having a blast this year. Special mention goes to Samir & Victor (who also tried to represent their country at this years Eurovision Song Contest)! Their smash hit ‘Success’ remains steady in the charts and is just outside this years Top 10 after currently 9 weeks. A fun tune which will get everyone moving – hands down, not just because they’re good looking – well one of them. And on that note thanks for stopping by!

For the fifth week in a row ‘Gonna Get Even’ remains solid at the pole position in Enrico’s Hitlist, overtaking Jessie J’s ‘It’s My Party’ as the second longest Number 1 this year. That honour still remains in One Republic hands who were an incredible nine weeks at the helm with their smash hit ‘Feel Again’.

First honour of this week though goes to Nashville Star Chris Cormack aka Will Lexington (in the show) who’s sneaking up two ranks with his first single ‘What If I Was Willing’. After hearing this song on the show for the first time I checked out a few YouTube videos and ever since I have seen the performance below it grew on me even more. And maybe it has the same effect on you!!

Just had a quick look into previous entries around this time of the year and I do have to giggle about this one which entered my Top 20 and since Disney is kinda becoming a regular these days I thought to share this one with you! It is the Opening Theme to the Gummi Bears. It only lasted for two weeks scoring 18 points but nonetheless I am confident it will  make you go back in time and perhaps trigger a giggle too!

I think I should start showing potential new entries for upcoming weeks and the best chances at the moment entering the Top 20 are lying in the hands of pop queen Celine Dion and her latest single ‘Loved Me Back To Life’ which she performed on the X-Factor the other week! It is currently climbing up the charts around the world so I probably succumb to this trend as well and grant her a ranking in Enrico’s Hitlist. It might bring a few more Canadian visitors onto my website.

Better late than never right?! And right in front of you is the latest edition of Enrico’s Top 20! Dominating this week is without a doubt the US TV hit-show from ABC ‘Nashville’!! Not only does Aubrey Peeples remain on the top position for a fourth week in a row! Surprising factor to me this week is the amount of overflow of new entries, such as from the Nashville Cast, Connie Britton & Chris Carmack which just shows the incredible talent behind the scenes in producing amazing new songs! I hope you agree with me on this one!

First one up though is what I would almost call a come back after their sudden disappearance a few weeks ago. Of course I am talking about Swedish Pop sensation Icona Pop and their new entry ‘All Night’ replacing previous smash hit ‘I Love It’. Needless to say they did a brilliant job and rank five is a pretty good result given the dominance of Nashville this week!

Sticking to Sweden but not in this weeks Top 20 is a blast from the past is a song which entered Enrico’s Hitlist exactly 10 years ago!!! Nowadays I would even classify this one as a typical Eurovision Song! It is one of Sweden’s most successful performances and will go down in history as a so called classic! Sweden for some reason just knows how to do good pop music. However, their life performance does remind me a bit of the X-Factor!!!

Last but not least I should honour Robin Thicke, not with his 2013 sensational hit ‘Blurred Lines’ though! No! The honour goes to his Number 1 hit single – yes that’s right – ‘The Good Life’. Unfortunately there is no good video of it so far and the song is on the leaving the Top 20 pattern but I thought I owe it to you plus to end this weeks Top 20 on a positive note!

Week 43 of this year has it all by the looks of it! Quite a colourful week, just judging from the ups and downs and re-appearances. Thumbs up of course to Nashville hit ‘Gonna Get Even’ by Aubrey Peeples as she manages to retain the top spot for a second week. She can hold off an attack from James Blunt who is shooting up to Number 2 this week with his debut single in Enrico’s Hitlist: ‘Bonfire Heart’. The song has a bit of similarity feel to Shane Filans ‘Everything To Me’ which was just recently in the Top 20, don’t you think?!

Well I don’t think it’s no longer a secret that I’m a massive Dolly Parton fan. And this week it has transpired that the queen of country music is touring the UK again next year. Fingers crossed my sources are correct. Anyway: ‘Shine Like the Sun’ had the honour of being constantly played on my iPod this past week and Dolly rightfully earned her way back in Enrico’s Top 20 at Number 7. There is just something about Dolly, her gift to write songs and translating most of it into something uplifting which always has the affect to motivate you!

Last but not least a blast from the past! Well not really, because the Dixie Chicks did appear with this song for the first time last year. By just looking at the youTube results and the lack of videos to this song it seems it is a much older song, than it actually is. ‘The Long Way Around’ was only recorded back in 2006, and apparently it was selected the 20th best song of that year by the Rolling Stone Magazine, which does make me wonder why there is no proper video to it. Nevertheless this is about music anyway and not so much about videos!! What a week eh?!

Strange

I am so achy this evening, so I have to keep it short! I did a double workout today which means a 1.5 hour gym session was followed by 1.5 hours in the swimming pool! This means everything hurts right now and I should try to get a decent sleep so my muscles can recover for more action in the pool tomorrow evening! I know I am a bit addicted to the water! I think swimming was much more painful, probably because I didn’t stretch properly after lifting a few (heavy) weights! But you know what they say: no pain no gain!

It was also extremely warm today (both in the gym and in the leisure centre my club is training at) which makes exercising even harder! I do find it strange how some people in the gym work out without sweating at all, whilst I start to be dripping wet just minutes after my warm up on the rowing machine and listening to Lady Gaga’s smash-hit ‘The Edge Of Glory’! I think it’s going to be a myth to me, like how guys also just go to the gym to do a kind of fashion show (and not everyone who’s walking by, shaking their ass is not that good looking). It does however keep me entertained like the songs I’m listening to whilst pumping the iron!

So my flash back this week starts with a song which entered Enrico’s Hitlist back on the 23rd of April in 2001. Yes (!), a staggering 12 years ago! It definitely isn’t a song I’d have on whilst working out, but back then I couldn’t care less! Irish singer Enya managed to stay 15 weeks in total in the Top 20, whilst scoring 218 points, which gives her all time rank 174 at this stage. It is her second most successful single in my charts only a few points behind her Number 1 Single – originally released in 1988 – ‘Orinoco Flow’, which also made its debut in 2001. ‘Anywhere Is’ followed in 1995 and became a minor international hit for this grammy-award winning singer and instrumentalist. Apparently (according to Wikipedia) her record sales are making her one of the world’s most-selling artists of all time!

Exactly Six years after Enya’s first appearance a British alternative rock group called Transvision Vamp debuted at Number 1 for one week in Enrico’s Hitlist! I woud like to point out, that ‘I Want Your Love’ did not just became a hit in my charts, as it also went onto the top spot in the Norwegian Singles Charts! Despite the initial high ranking though the song only lasted nine weeks before it dropped out again, which leaves them with a total score of 152 points or rank 304 in the all time rankings! The song was initially released in 1988 and was the bands first UK Top 40 hit. I do think that to a slight degree Karmin’s video to ‘Brokenhearted’ is the modern version of this one!

One song which I have to admit I was listening to earlier on whilst working hard in the gym was the Glee version of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’. Since Whitney Houston’s original from 1987 is the most successful one though, I would like to share her video instead of the short one from the US TV-Hit show, which by the way got extended last Friday for another two seasons! Glee entered the charts on the 23rd of April in 2012, fiive years later than Transvision Vamps ‘I Want Your Love’ with nine weeks in the Top 20 as well, but only 103 points and position 473 out of currently 1915 songs listed in total! Whitney’s version easily surpasses this, having spent 36 weeks since her first appearance back in March 2001! She’s occupying all-time rank 111 with her 294 points and therefore narrowly missing out on the Top 100! Surprisingly both versions never reached the Top Spot, but no matter what anyone is thinking right now,  this tune is a winner for the dance floor!!! And my bed is a winner now as well! See you Sunday for the next release of Enrico’s Top 20!!
